A short detour from Yorkshire Wolds Rangers Way, is the Robert Fuller Gallery where you can browse paintings, photographs, films, and live nest cameras as you sip a complementary cup of coffee! Dedicated exclusively to the work of renowned artist Robert E Fuller, this gallery is a must for anyone who loves wildlife. Alongside the lifelike paintings are photographic and film studies that led to their making. And on screens displayed throughout there is live footage from inside the nests of owl, kestrel, and stoats. Don't miss this chance to see tawny owls feeding their young, stoat kits tumbling over one another inside their nests and fledgling kestrels flying from branch to branch on the screens whilst you admire the paintings they inspired on the walls. There is also a shop where you can buy prints, gifts, homeware, and greeting cards featuring Robert Fuller's delightful paintings.

Country Huts on the Wolds, Thixendale

Our solid huts are made out of reclaimed mill timbers - the exterior from a flour mill in Chester, the interior from a bonded warehouse in Newcastle and the floorboards from Goosehill School in Morpeth! They sit on hand-forged steel chassis and wheels providing a desirable setting for your rural stay. Insulated with sheep's wool, double glazed and with the warmth of a 7kw wood burner and a radiator, the huts are very comfortable and warm inside.

The Cross Keys, Thixendale

We welcome you to The Cross Keys, an award winning small village pub nestling in the valleys of the Yorkshire Wolds dating back to at least 1851. We have been recognised by CAMRA for many years-including Pub of the Season in 2012. The Cross Keys is a one roomed pub situated in the heart of the village.

The Village Hall, Thixendale

The Village Hall is an attractive Grade II listed building designed by G.E.Street and built in 1872 under the patronage of Sir Tatton Sykes of nearby Sledmere.

The Hall is open most Sundays from 11am to 4pm for light refreshments. Volunteers from the village serve tea/coffee/juices and a variety of scones and home-baked cakes.

Thixendale



The place name Thixendale is first attested in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it appears as Xistendale. The only pubin the village, the Cross Keys, is well worth a visit being is a regular winner of local CAMRA awards - and the Wold Rangers Way goes right past the front door too!

3 of our favourite facts about Thixendale:

- The Yorkshire Wolds Way National Trail, a passes through the village at its eastern end. 
- The church of St Mary, Thixendale was designated in 1966 by English Heritage as a Grade II* listed building and is on the Sykes Churches Trail.
- For many years until the late 1990s, television signals were blocked by the surrounding hills until a small transmitter was built, providing the village with terrestrial television for the first time.
