The 2027 Wold Rangers Walking Festival is now being planned - so check back here and follow us on Facebook for announcements
As a small charity we’re really keen to provide guided walks and encourage people to get out and enjoy the Yorkshire Wolds. We also want to develop the Wold Rangers Way, put on new events and tell the stories of the Wold Rangers to everyone from walking groups to local schools. We therefore charge a small amount for some of our Walking Festival events while at the same time, ensuring there are minimal barriers to people getting involved.
- The shorter guided walks, some with local history talks usually are FREE
- Specialist events or those guided walks where we provide support or refreshments at the end have a charge to cover the costs
We carefully plan all walks, undertake risk assessments (and recce the routes) have insurance, provide a walk leader, a back marker, first aider and for some, provide water stops along the way - all with the support of our wonderful volunteers who offer their time freely.
Join us for this unique opportunity to walk the Wold Rangers Way in four stages/days during the Walking East Yorkshire Festival in September 2026.
Tickets on sale from 6th March (6pm) at £20/person. This includes coach transfers each day, a unique completion medal and refreshments on the final afternoon upon return to Driffield. Wold Rangers Way. Events - 3 Upcoming Activities and Tickets | Eventbrite (SOLD OUT)
This is a great opportunity for anyone wanting to complete the entire route over four days. Walkers will gather in Driffield at 9:45am each morning and be taken by coach to the start of each stage and returned following the walk, (apart from those starting and finishing in Driffield) making it accessible for anyone who wishes to use public transport to Driffield or is not familiar with the area. Each day will involve walking between 9 and 12.5 miles and therefore a good level of fitness is required to complete all the sections as there are some steep ascents and descents and rough terrain.
The walk has been organised by East Riding of Yorkshire Council and trustees of the Wold Rangers Way who are leading the walk and will be delivering historic antidotes on these nomadic characters along the trail.
There is a special 'Wold Rangers Way in 4' medal waiting for those who complete all 4 days.
The daily schedule is as follows:
- Monday 14th September Stage 1 - Driffield to Huggate 12.5 miles
- Tuesday 15th September Stage 2 - Huggate to Thixendale 11 miles
- Wednesday 16th September Rest Day
- Thursday 17th September Stage 3 - Thixendale to Sykes Monument 11 miles
- Friday 18th September Stage 4 - Sykes Monument to Driffield 9.5 miles
The Wold Rangers Way is a challenging circular trail which winds its way 44 miles over the Yorkshire Wolds through amazing chalk landscapes with dry valleys and stunning wildlife alongside vibrant market towns and ancient Wolds villages. The trail was created to capture the unique history of the Wold Rangers and ensures that their names and stories live on forever. The walk starts and finishes in Driffield – a thriving market town with a number of independent shops and eateries.
The Trustees are delighted to be able to bring not only the Wold Rangers but also the Wold Rangers Way to a wider audience and a 45 minute presentation with slides can be booked for a minimum donation of £50.
We are a small charity and no travel expenses are required for presentations required along the route of the Wold Rangers Way – Thixendale/Huggate/Sledmere/Fimber/Fridaythorpe/Garton on the Wolds/Elmswell/Driffield, however for journeys further afield, travel expenses of 40p per mile are requested.
Please note that Trustees who deliver the presentations do not require refreshments.
If your organisation would like to discuss hosting a talk about the Wold Rangers Way, please get in touch to confirm availability and details.
